Juliano's 12/28/09

Juliano's
Mill Plain at about 155th in Vancouver, WA
December 28th 2009

General Information: Juliano's is a restaurant started by one of the original owners of Flying Pie in Portland.

The Story: Taking it to go.

-The Pizza-

1 Mini Pepperoni
1 Medium Pepperoni on Gluten Free Crust

Crust-

The crust for the mini was quite good as far as flavor goes, but too much of it was exposed for how small the fucking pizza was (6")

The Gluten Free crust was super thin, quite good for GF crust, and cooked just right. We've had experiences with undercooked and overcooked GF crust. It's never good.

Sauce-

Juliano's has a good flavorful sauce and they put a decent amount on the pie. It could use a little bit more, but that's just my preference. It's good and thick but not chunky. Lots of zest to it.

Toppings-

On my 6" pizza there were probably 30 slices of pepperoni, so it was THICK as hell. The GF pizza was so thick with pepperoni it was unbelievable. NEVER EVER order extra pepperoni when you go to Juliano's. It'll be too much. It's already almost too much. Imagine pepperoni stacked like 5 deep covering the entire pizza. Yeah, THAT much.

Cheese-

The cheese Juliano's uses is fantastic. It melts nicely over the pizza. They use a mozzarella cheese and put it both under the toppings. Then they cook the pizza, pull it out mid way though and put MORE CHEESE on top of the toppings. It's like watching Die Hard. Too much, but still good.

Overall taste-

Juliano's put fucka garlic on their pizza. Like enough to where when you eat a bitch out after having Juliano's, the next guy to lick her pussy tastes the fucking garlic. It's great though and the flavor is full and zesty. It's about at the point where any MORE and it wouldn't be good, but it's just a shitload of food.

Value-

It's expensive for what you get, though the 6" is a great value. Only 5.45 for that, but including the medium the price came to just over $28.00. That's without drinks. FUCK! That little (yes, like 10-12 inches) medium GF pie is a fucking travesty that it costs that much. But the taste of the pizza makes up for the god awful price. Which makes it a decent value. However, if you have a choice, if Flying Pie is having its usual quality, you can get the same pizza and have the OPTION of a shit ton of garlic for about $10 less per pie.

-Beer-

On tap-

It was to go, and I didn't check. Next time.

Bottled-

same.

-Atmosphere-

Location-

East Vancouver near shopping. A terrible location for somebody from Portland, or even somebody passing through town, but if you live in Vancouver, east of I-205, it doesn't get much more convenient short of being right on the damn freeway. Mill Plain is a major through street that hits both major freeways and traffic is usually rolling smooth. It's kind of hard to see though as you drive past. Easy to miss if you aren't paying attention.

Exterior Atmosphere-

Nothing much to note, just all glass walls, neon sign. Pretty basic.

Interior Atmosphere-

If you are a fucking dirty ass hippie, or just like the music those dirty ass fucks like, this place is for you. Just HIPPIE! Grateful Dead shit everywhere, it's pretty cool and looks like a pizza joint started by a dirty ass hippie should look.

Service-

SLOW AS FUCK! Just kind of sub par, but I got my pizza and they weren't dicks, so I can't complain too much.

-Review Notes-

Overall I'd say Juliano's impressed once again. Quality shit and discovering the mini and the value it has was a big bonus. If only their standard pizza's weren't so fucking expensive. FUCKING LOWER YOUR PRICES A COUPLE BUCKS!

-OVERALL RATING-

8/10. Good pie. One of the best around.
